I have many years of experience in the ECE field after earning my Early Childhood Education Diploma, specializing in infant/toddler and special needs. Over the years I have gained valuable experience and was given the opportunity to work with a variety of children of many ages in many different settings. This included Walt Disney World in Florida, several childcare centres in both Ontario and BC, resorts in Muskoka, Ontario, Girl Guide leader and volunteering through Big Sisters.

After completing the Business Program at Disney University I realized I really enjoyed the business side of how an operation works. I left the field for a few years to gain more experience in the business world. I worked in a sales and marketing position for a while but then ended up back in the world of ECE!

As a centre’s Manager’ I am able to have the best of both worlds – I still get to be with the kids and work on the business side as well.

I love getting to know all the new families coming into the centre.

Why do you want to work with children?

After graduating from UBC in May, I looked for employment that would be relevant to my degree as I began preparing my law school application. I began working as a behavioral interventionist for a young girl born with cerebral palsy and severe anxiety. I focused on using physical activity to channel negative behaviour into positive actions. Seeing this young girl achieve new milestones was not only rewarding, but made me rethink law school. I am now considering elementary education as an alternative and exploring the field through my experiences as a behavioral interventionist and working at Bee Haven!
